Excelsior Academy Primary Careers Fair
Back
Excelsior Academy welcomed Primary pupils from seven local primary schools for an interactive Careers Fair designed to introduce young people to a wide range of careers and future opportunities.
The event ran from 9.30am to 2.30pm, with pupils taking part in a carousel format. Working in groups, they spent around 15 minutes with each organisation before moving on to the next, giving them the opportunity to ask questions, meet professionals and take part in a range of interactive activities.
Pupils attended from Wingrove, Atkinson Road, Hawthorn, Bridgewater, Canning Street, Broadwood and West Newcastle Academy, alongside pupils from Excelsior Academy.
A diverse range of organisations and teams took part, including British Divers Marine Life Rescue, the Department for Work and Pensions, First Call, Northumberland College, Northumbria University, Money Ready, Groundwork and Access UNEE. Excelsior Academy’s Hair and Beauty Department also supported the event.
The range of organisations gave pupils the opportunity to explore different sectors and pathways, from environmental conservation and education to higher education, finance, recruitment and employment.
The interactive activities gave pupils the chance to get involved, ask questions and explore different areas of work in an engaging way, helping them to develop a broader understanding of the careers and opportunities that could be available to them in the future.
The carousel format meant pupils could engage with every organisation throughout the day, giving them the opportunity to discover new areas of interest and make connections between what they learn in school and the world of work.
Events such as the Primary Careers Fair are an important part of careers education, helping young people to broaden their understanding of different sectors and pathways while encouraging them to think about their own future ambitions.
