PE

Back

The aim of our PE curriculum is to develop independent, creative and resilient learners who are competent in all areas of Physical literacy.

Through a seamless learning journey from KS2 to KS4 we will empower pupils with the knowledge and understanding of the three key areas of health: physical, mental and social and this will give them the knowledge and skills to guide them into adulthood, whilst also adding to a pupil’s cultural capital.

Key Stage 2

Key Stage 3 and 4

Aims of the key stage 3 curriculum

At our school, Physical Education is a vital part of the curriculum for all pupils in Years 7 to 9. Our PE programme is designed to help pupils build physical competence, develop confidence, and adopt a positive attitude toward health and well-being. Through a wide range of sports and physical activities, pupils learn not only how to improve their performance, but also how to collaborate, lead, and reflect on their progress. We are committed to delivering high-quality PE lessons that are inclusive, challenging, and engaging. Our aim is to nurture confident, active learners who enjoy physical activity and understand its lifelong benefits. Whether pupils aim to excel in sport, develop personal fitness, or simply have fun being active, our curriculum supports every journey.

Aims of key stage 4 curriculum

From Year 10, all pupils are empowered to thrive within a personalised programme of study. We offer pupils pathways in PE which give them the opportunity to develop their personal fitness, to excel in games or a combination of both games and fitness.

For those pupils who pick examination PE we offer the NCFE Level 1/2 Technical Award in Health and Fitness. This course was chosen as it complements our programme of study from KS3 with pupils learning about the human body and how we use our different body systems when taking part in sport, the different areas of fitness, how we test and train to improve our fitness and the importance of good health and a balanced diet.

Extracurricular Opportunities

We strongly believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Our extracurricular programme encourages all pupils to get involved, build friendships, and develop further skills:

  • After-school clubs: Football, netball, basketball, athletics, cricket, dance, fitness circuits, and more
Competitive teams: Represent the school in local leagues and tournaments at district, county and National level

  • Events & trips: Sports day, inter-house competitions, sports festivals, and spectator trips to professional matches
