Maths
BackAt Excelsior Academy we have a seamless 5-year maths curriculum with the following objectives
-
To equip pupils with the maths and numeracy skills they will need as adults.
-
To develop pupils’ confidence and encourage a positive attitude towards mathematics.
-
To highlight the importance of mathematics in their own lives and to society.
-
To prepare students with problem solving skills for future learning.
-
To provide a strong mathematical foundation for students who wish to go on to study mathematics at a higher-level post-16
Aims of the Maths curriculum
By the time pupils leave they should be able;
-
To develop knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts in number, algebra, ratio, geometry and statistics.
-
To have the basic numeracy skills they will need as adults.
-
To have mathematical procedural fluency.
-
To acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
-
To reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences and draw conclusions
-
To understand, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context.
-
To retain the ‘meta-maths’ once they have left school and no longer recall the specifics and formulae: the knowledge and logic that is left behind.
